Hi, All:
I have been bombarded by followers of this Blog, to relate more of the life of the Indian Chief named :Shortcake:. My children remember that I, at one time, put together a whole string of his stories into a "Shortcake Saga". I cannot find that Saga now, so I will give it to you all, piecemeal, as I recall the stories.
I will lead off with a classic:
THE PENALTY OF HONESTY
The four young sons of shortcake were, each one of them, special in some way. But together, they were extremely mischievous.
One day Shortcake called his sons together, visibly upset, and asked :
“Who pushed the outhouse off the cliff??”
There was utter silence. None of the boys stepped forward.
“Now, Listen , you Braves, I want to know who pushed the outhouse off the cliff.??”
Again, total silence.
Shortcake made one more attempt.
“Now, you all know we are the Original Americans. George Washington, the “Father” of this country, was known for his honesty. Once, his father asked “Who cut down the cherry tree?”, and George Washington stepped forth and said : “I cannot tell a lie, Father, I cut down the cherry tree”.
Shortcake continued: “And so, I ask again,-- Who pushed the outhouse off the cliff??”
This time, one young Brave, bravely stepped forward and said: “I, too, cannot tell a lie, Father.- -I pushed the outhouse off the cliff”.
Whereupon Shortcake hauled off and gave a resounding slap to the boy's face that made his ears ring.
“But Father”, the boy cried, holding his face, “Did George Washington’s father slap him like that when George Washington admitted to cutting down the cherry tree??”
Shortcake responded and growled: “George Washington’s father was not IN the cherry tree at the time it was cut down”.
More of this "Saga" later.
